Peter MacLean Award

The Peter MacLean Award is presented annually to ‘an employee of a CCAWA member who has performed above and beyond the call of duty in providing excellence in customer service.’

It is presented in recognition of Peter Maclean, who was a past CEO of Metropolitan Cemeteries Board, ACCA Association President and a highly valued, committed and driven member of the Executive Committee, and who during his working life had a gift for providing outstanding industry service.

In recognising Peter’s contribution to the Association and the Industry, this Award is a fitting tribute to appropriately recognise a person who has provided exceptional service to their cemetery and/or crematoria via coordination and maintenance within the cemetery industry.

The 2026 Award is kindly sponsored by CCAWA Major Sponsors including: Arrow Bronze, Chronicle, Everlon, Final Touch (Australia), Hyqual Australia, Phoenix Foundry, PlotBox and the Australasian Cemeteries & Crematoria Association (ACCA).

Peter Maclean joined the then Karrakatta Cemetery Board on the 5th July 1976 and retired on the 7th January 2011. Peter was a past Association President and a highly valued, committed and driven member of the Executive Management Committee. Additionally, he was fortunate to be gifted with outstanding customer service skills.

Following Peter Maclean’s retirement, the CCAWA Executive determined that a most fitting tribute would be to create an Industry Award recognising outstanding industry service to the West Australian community.

Felicity Anderson – Shire of Meekatharra

Felicity Anderson is the winner of the Peter Maclean Award in recognition of her outstanding leadership, innovation, and commitment to excellence in cemetery administration and management within the Shire of Meekatharra.

Through her initiative and determination, Felicity has led significant improvements to the management of the Meekatharra Cemetery, addressing long‑standing issues relating to inaccurate mapping, incomplete records, and operational inefficiencies. Her work to redesign and implement a new professionally bound burial register has markedly improved the accuracy and reliability of cemetery records.

Felicity was instrumental in the successful implementation of the Chronicle digital cemetery management system, which went live in December 2023. This project involved extensive historical research, collaboration with external agencies and community members, and the digitisation of previously fragmented records. The introduction of GIS mapping, aerial surveys, and a comprehensive headstone survey has transformed public access to cemetery information and enhanced the ability of families to locate and honour their loved ones.

Her commitment to customer service is demonstrated through her compassionate and diligent support of families, often resolving complex enquiries through detailed research to ensure accurate and respectful outcomes.

In addition to these achievements, Felicity played a key role in the development of the Shire of Meekatharra Cemeteries Management Plan, adopted by Council in November 2024. This plan provides a strategic framework for the sustainable management of both the active cemetery and five remote pioneer cemeteries across the Shire.

Felicity Anderson’s strong work ethic, professionalism, and passion for cemetery management have delivered lasting benefits to the community, preserved local heritage, and exemplified best practice in cemetery administration. She is a highly deserving winner for the Peter Maclean Award.
